Re: Show and shines not just for the classics, Aug. 9

The editorial made some valid points about the importance of community events and the interaction of people from different areas and walks of life.

However, your remark that “many people may not appreciate the noise some of these beasts of the road can produce” is grossly understated.

I would put to you that the overwhelming majority of the population at large strongly disapproves of the excessive noise levels generated by such cars and motorcycles and does not appreciate having their sleep interrupted, their quiet time in their backyards interfered with or their day at the beach spoiled by individuals whose fragile egos need to have them operate powerful and noisy machines on public roads in order to make them feel strong and powerful themselves. There are very powerful motorcycles on the road that make less noise than the average car and those machines are typically operated by mature people who are considerate of others.

Most municipalities also have noise bylaws and experts consider noise pollution to be a very serious issue affecting not only quality of life but health as well. But where is the enforcement?
