Re: Parksville looks to upgrade city’s swag (Sept. 12).

Thank you for this very entertaining report from Parksville city council.

Unbelievable how enthusiastic Ms. Salter was. Could this issue be one of the few times she and the mayor have found common ground? Who knew the mayor was suffering from not being the most popular visitor with the future voters.

In his very own words, “I think that’s a very good idea, and maybe I could win some of the kids votes from the police chief with his Dairy Queen certificates.”

Refreshing to have all on the same page at the city centre of policy making, as this was a unanimous decision.

Now comes the real work, as staff are faced with the tough decisions. This could become very challenging as there are so many unknowns.

Should these swags reflect wildlife? Could these giveaways be some of the many flags that have represented the city? Will they need to reflect the majestic setting of Parksville? Will the sand dollar now become the symbol, or should it be the brant goose? So good luck to all sifting through all that “swag.”

Unsure of the word “swag” as I was? Here’s what the Urban Dictionary had to say: “… a word that was extremely overused from late 2012 and is now nothing more than a joke.”
