In a few months we will be asked to elect a new city/town council. Unfortunately, history shows us that few residents will vote even though the decisions made by your elected members will affect your day-to-day life for the next four years.

Keep in mind that any pamphlet and ads are slanted towards one point of view. The all-candidates meetings can be informative; however, time is limited and (often) the questions are made to either endorse or oppose a candidate.

I suggest you take some time to do your own homework. If the candidate is already on council, look at their performance; this can be done by attending council meetings, reading past minutes or doing a search on PQB News to familiarize yourself with their performance. Did they work well with other council members and staff?

Invite your preferred candidates to coffee with friends. Ask the questions, especially about your areas of concern.

Do not let others’ ads or mail-outs influence you. Make an informed decision and VOTE on October 20th.
