LETTER: Stop signs mean ‘very little’ to some

What does a stop sign mean to a driver? Apparently to many in our community; very little.

What does a stop sign mean to a driver? Apparently to many in our community; very little.

Countless times I’ve witnessed drivers barrelling through stop signs at intersections through the defunct E&N railway crossings. For example, Arbutus Street, Mill, Beach, Fern and Qualicum roads, etc.

My concern is what other chances are these folks taking at other stop signs.

It is costly to police these areas. I believe this reckless behaviour puts drivers in the wrong mindset: young drivers, experienced drivers, and our aging population, little or no regard to safety on our roads, here or anywhere else.

Why are these stop signs still there anyway? Whose responsibility is it to have them removed?

There has been no activity on this railway for years, only endless talk and speculation.
