Re: The effects of ‘housing first and what’s planned for Corfield in Parksville (The NEWS, Aug. 9).

I have been following the ongoing public debate regarding the Corfield supportive housing with great interest. I have 30 years professional experience in the field of supportive housing. Throughout my career I examined many different approaches and worked with local, provincial and national housing providers to develop and evaluate appropriate supportive housing for persons in need.

Your interview with Violet Hayes and Renate Sutherland should go a long way in reassuring our citizens that the Corfield supportive housing project being proposed here is something we should all be proud of and embrace.

Indeed, as your article rightfully points out there is an extensive body of research that demonstrates mainly positive outcomes for the residents living in a supportive housing environment. The Corfield supportive housing project should be welcomed and not feared.
