Vancouver Island University (VIU) ElderCollege hosted a gathering of over 300 people of all ages at the ‘Eclipse on the Beach’ event held at the waterfront on Aug. 21.

We would like to acknowledge the gracious support of the Town of Qualicum Beach, especially Heather Svensen and the crew that set up the safety barricades.

Many thanks to our astronomy instructor, Dr. David Prud’homme and his team (Linda, Callie and Phil) for volunteering their time and sharing their telescopes, solar glasses and knowledge with the crowd. Also, much appreciation is extended to our promotions committee (Perry, Anne-Marie and Jacqui) for organizing the event and to The PQB News for their coverage.

In particular, thanks to the pleasant, interested and inquisitive ‘stargazers’ who not only willingly shared the solar glasses, but also experienced the magnificent spectacle with all of us.

We hope that you enjoyed the show!

Dr. Anne Toby

Chair of the Board and Instructor, VIU ElderCollege
