You can have “Fighting Tuberculosis” or “Fighting Poverty” and all the other things that we can agree are worth fighting against, but “Fighting Phoenix” (your headline on the front page of the Jan. 27 edition) has the implication that the reader is somehow engaged with you in some noble campaign against some specific evil. You wouldn’t say Fighting Harper, would you?
The drug war is much too huge an issue for me to get into here, but the opinions of the RCMP and Mayor Marc Lefevbre are predictable and somewhat yesterday, given the fact that in several jurisdictions south of the border marijuana can be sold legally, even without a prescription.
I am not fighting Phoenix. Actually, I don’t care much one way or another, but I am annoyed that my tax dollars go to harassing pot heads, and I’d prefer that the mayor and the RCMP find more relevant ways to expend their energies and my money.
