Old tax system had real disadvantages

We should keep the HST

aintaining the current HST — all purchases at registered charity-run thrift stores are fully exempt.

Under the old provincial tax system, seven per cent provincial tax had to be charged on furniture, equipment, dishes, bedding and so on, basic necessities for people who are just starting out on their own.

We certainly do not want to go back to that system.

Another positive result from these purchases, is that profits from Salvation Army Stores go to support the local Food Bank and soup kitchen.
