Passing the bite buck

This aggressive dog is still on the loose and no one is doing anything about it

On July 23 at approximately 8:30 a.m., my daughter was running on Fern Road East in Qualicum Beach and was bit by a dog (a shepherd cross).

A person driving by witnessed the attack and stopped — he drove my daughter home. The owner of the dog did nothing to control the dog and just stood there crying and told my daughter that the dog had already bitten someone else.

Twenty minutes later I drove down Fern Rd East to get the address of the house to report the incident and the dog was still running loose and was going after a gentleman on a bike — the owner was standing and watching.

I have been to the SPCA, RCMP, Town of Qualicum Beach bylaw officer and Nanaimo animal control but Fern Road is not in their jurisdiction. The Nanaimo animal control office referred me back to the SPCA, who then refereed me back to the town. Everyone seems to be passing the buck. This aggressive dog is still on the loose and no one is doing anything about it. Fern Road East is used by more foot traffic than cars and someone is going to get badly hurt.
