Photo insensitive

Reporter lurking around memorial service was not appreciated

I was really ticked off, to say the least, when I saw The NEWS reporter taking a photo of the young people outside the community centre in Qualicum Beach where the service for one of their friends was going to take place.

To see her standing up on a cement wall, behind hedges, peeking around at the kids, was beyond rude and insensitive.

The photo in the August 20 paper shows just how broken up the kids were; it wouldn’t help for them to see someone lurking behind the bushes taking their photo.

Or maybe the looks on their faces also reflected their feelings about being photographed in this way and at this time.

It’s one thing to have community support and positive thoughts, which is why there was a service there, quite another to use media in such an insensitive way.
