If you are a cyclist you will be aware that the amount of gravel in the bike lanes this year since the winter has been worse than usual, including the designated cycling route between Qualicum Beach and Parksville, so it was gratifying to finally see a road sweeper in action last week on Bennett Road.

A big thank you also to the owner of Pacific Net and Twine on Highway 4A, who took the trouble to clear the gravel in the bike lane in front of his car park by hand. What a great example. If only others with gravel driveways were as considerate.

If we are to be serious about going green, a change in attitude is needed towards the condition of our travel corridors. After all, most cyclists are also taxpayers and vehicle owners who contribute to the upkeep of our highways.
