I lived in central Alberta for six years. When spring finally arrived, everyone knew, and everyone was ready.
Here on Vancouver Island, spring is often understated and can even seem to come and go and keep us wondering whether or not it really has arrived.
The signs of spring sneak up on us, and often offer us a surprise. Tulips pop up in the middle of a yard; a robin stuffs moss in a nest almost complete before we even see it; green buds change the colour of a familiar tree over night. Ordinary occurrences of spring that surprise us and cause us to smile are delightful.
In the ordinary stuff of life we can also find the love of God.
The Holy One, the Creator, the Lover of us all is found everywhere. I recently stood by the bed of a sick woman while she told me about the blessing of her life — God, present in the gratitude.
I noticed some youth picking up papers caught in one of the gardens on the way to town — God present in their care of community.
More people are out walking hand in hand, sharing the warmth of the sun on their faces — God found in relationships. Soon open windows will bring fresh warm breezes into our homes — God found in nature.
Spring has come! Be a part of it as you notice new leaves, new shoots, bright flowers and warm breezes. God is everywhere!
Be open to noticing the wonders of living, sharing deep relationships, kindness, and God’s abiding love in all of creation, which includes each one of us.
