I read with interest Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce CEO Peter Doukakis’ suggestion that rather than raise the mayor stipend, we add two new councillors at a cost of $39,250 annually.
Has Mr. Doukakis not heard of fiscal responsibility?
He also states the chamber’s solution to their perceived problem with council is to create a “sound institution foundation, strategic direction and informed action plan in alignment with existing stakeholders.”
Curious! I thought that is what we had with the Official Community Plan and the inclusive consultative processes.
Could he have another reason for his wanting two more councillors for nearly $40,000 rather than an small offset raise for the mayor?
We already have two councillors who quite often choose to ignore our OCP.
Is it the chambers intention to try to elect more councillors that pretend such a “strategic direction and informed action plan” does not exist?
Please, stop wasting our energy, time and money. Work within the OCP.
