Why suggest amalgamation?

Your survey question is troubling: “Is the amalgamation of Parksville and Qualicum Beach something local residents should consider?”

Your survey question in recent editions of The NEWS is troubling: “Is the amalgamation of Parksville and Qualicum Beach something local residents should consider?”

I am not aware of any public calls for amalgamation in Qualicum Beach or Parksville. Is your newspaper trying to make this an issue? To promote a movement for amalgamation? Your timing, just months before the upcoming municipal elections in the fall, is too coincidental.

I would appreciate the media just reporting the news and commenting on real issues, not trying to invent or promote things for which there is no call. The media already has enough influence over what the public hears, sees and knows.
