The sun made an appearance down at Parksville Community Park on Wednesday evening — great news for the 120 players that turned out for week two of Oceanside Outdoor Sports Youth League the spring session. Some have been playing in the league for years, and for many others this is their first time around.
“It’s going great ... we have a total of 60 teams out this year,” longtime beach booster, coach, and the driving force behind Oceanside Outdoor Sport, Shane Hyde, said after signup.
“This is awesome,” one player said as he looked skyward. “It’s so bright you gotta wear sunglasses.”
The first session of the youth spring league, open to players aged 11-17, wraps up in six weeks.
There are 74 teams registered for the Wednesday night Co-Ed Triples Adult League. There are still a few openings in both leagues for anyone still interested in joining.

The Oceanside area has been sorely under-represented at this event for years, and local beach organizer Shane Hyde is putting the call out for more local teams.
