The Ravensong Breakers enjoyed a busy couple of weeks to wrap up February, with five swimmers competing at the Provincial AA Championships in Chilliwack two of them earning medals and 25 Breakers swimming in the annual Duncan Invitational meet Feb. 25-26.

At the AA provincials, Jack Confortin, 15, won the 400-metre freestyle, picked up a silver medal in the 1,500 free, and earned bronze in the 200 free, qualifying him for the AAA Provincial Championships held in Victoria last weekend.

Confortin and Alexandra Roberts, also 15, shared the club’s Golden Kickboard Award as swimmers of the meet. Roberts won bronze medals in both the 400 and 800 freestyle, just narrowly missing the qualifying time standard in the 200 free that would have sent her to AAA’s.

“Duncan was our best meet of the year so far as a club, with close to 90 per cent (personal) best times,” said Byron Trajan, Breakers head coach.

Swimmers of the meet were Raelia VanDusen, 13, and Jimmy Paetkau, 16, who both swam personal bests in all their races in Duncan.

The Breakers qualified eight swimmers for the AAA Provincial Championships, held March 2-5 in Victoria for the best 18-under swimmers in B.C. Look for coverage in Thursday’s sports section.
