The Oceanside Generals have been extremely busy during the off-season.

They are set to open the 2022-23 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League campaign on Sept. 9 at the Howie Meeker Arena at Oceanside Place. They host the Port Alberni Bombers.

As they prepare for the upcoming season, the Generals have secured a new presenting sponsor, Save-On-Foods. The non-profit, community-owned team also welcomed Parksville Boathhouse Ltd. and Happy Jack’s Restaurants as corporate partners.

The Generals have also signed up new players that include Carter Ambrose, a defenceman who tallied 48 points — 16 goals and 32 assists — in 23 games that he played last season with College Beliveau of the Winnipeg High School Hockey League.

Also joining the Generals coming season are three forwards, Parksville product Ben Groome, Finlay Klippenstein of Nanaimo and Ty Gyori from Rimbey, Alta.

The Generals have been conducting development ice times that have been ongoing since June and will run until Aug. 11.

They are held at Oceanside Place and at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
