The Four Foot Curling camp in Parksville ended with the Silver Broom competition on Sunday.

More than 60 adult curlers and approximately 50 youth were in Parksville last week for the 31st annual Four Foot Curling Camp.

Run by Elaine Dagg-Jackson, the camps have been running on Vancouver Island for more than three decades — the last five years at the Parksville Curling Club.

Campers come to Parksville to hone their curling skills with local and international coaches.

And they do come from far away.

Dagg-Jackson said she had people from Manitoba, Alberta, B.C., Oregon, Ontario and Pennsylvania.

“Few locals,” she added, noting that the people who do come to the camp stay in local hotels and have a good economic impact on the community for the week or so they are in the area.

“We love it here,” she said of the Parksville Curling Club facility and ice.

The camp culminated Sunday with the youth group, and the camp’s traditional Silver Broom competition. Featuring opening and closing ceremonies, the Silver Broom event was a skills competition. Winners were awarded bronze, silver and gold medals, sportsmanship honours were handed out, as were prizes — as well as the coveted silver broom.
