When the Eaglecrest Ladies’ Club recently held its closing luncheon and award presentation, one name occurred with great regularity.

Lois Kaye made four trips to the podium to receive various awards, most notably the 2017 Club Championship Cup. As someone remarked, at least Kaye was not on the winning team in the closing day’s competition but perhaps only because the game was not scored.

The Ladies’ Club captain, Jacque Bater, reported that the club’s 50 members had an enjoyable and successful season, in spite of a late start to official competition because of unusually wet conditions on many courses.

In addition to a good complement of participants in the trophy and pin competitions, and many enjoyable days with more relaxed scoring variations, the club hosted a highly successful “Canada 150” Member-Guest Day as well as two social events.

The one disappointment was the failure of the women to replace the blue ball with a pink one on the trophy in the annual Battle of the Sexes in August, when Bater had to cede victory for the second year in a row to the men’s captain, Rick Klippert.

In addition to the Club Championship and Low Net Championship cups, won respectively by Kaye and Bev Fedorak, the following trophies were awarded (winner and runner-up listed).

Anne Sharpe Trophy (low net, more mature players): Georgie Higgins, Sandy Plumb. Marl Cup (low net, younger players): Lois Kaye, Soon Kim. Lorraine Riva Trophy (eclectic, better net score on each hole over two rounds): Division One - Kaye, Bater. Division Two - Elly Smith, Irene Creally. Division Three - Lori Roche, Lesley Randle. Croquet Cup (match play, handicap over 22): Honey Shepheard, consolation Irene Creally. Aggie Cup (match play, handicap 22 and under): Wendy Paulsen, consolation Sonya Miller.Club Championship flight winners (low gross and low net): Flight One - Jacque Bater and Wendy Paulsen. Flight Two - Barbara Pye and Carol Scott. Flight Three - Michelle Kraeling and Jean Petersen. Most Improved Player Trophy: Kathi Miller. Golf Canada pins: Lois Kaye (winner), Elly Smith (runner-up).
