Edwardson riding high

13-year-old former Parksville resident already finding jumping success

Emma Edwardson has been practicing hard to improve for the 2014 showing season.

Former Parksville resident Emma Edwardson is hitting her stride in the equestrian ring in her new hometown of Duncan.

The 13-year-old has been training at the prestigious Queen Margaret’s School in Duncan. Riding upwards of 20 hours a week with her trainer of four years Cheryl Keith, who is the head coach for riding at Queen Margaret’s School.

In December, Edwardson and her horse Ginger travelled to Wilsonville, Oregon for a three-day clinic with long time U.S. Olympic Equestrian team trainer George Morris. This was part of a hectic winter of preparation for Edwardson and Ginger who are gearing up for the 2014 show season.

Edwardson received awards from both the Vancouver Island Hunter Jumper Association and the B.C. Hunter Jumper Association for her 2013 season accomplishments. Last week she was invited to a two-day clinic at the end of March with Grand Prix champion and Queen Margaret’s Amy Millar. Millar is the daughter of 10-time Canadian Olympic Equestrian rider Ian Millar.

Emma will be competing at the HITS Thermal, a six-week horse show series in Palm Desert, California, the first week in March. She will also compete for the first time at Spruce Meadows and will head back to the Rocky Mountain Show Jumping competition for a third time. Both of those events take place in Calgary later this summer.
