Former Parksville Royals baseball standouts shine south of the border

Holyk, Nicoll have strong starts to season

Former Parksville Royals standout Tim Holyk is having a solid season so far, playing for Miles Community College Pioneers in Montana.

This is his second year playing in third base for the Pioneers.

The Nanaimo product was named the Mon-Dak Conference and Northeastern Junior College Athletic Association national baseball player of the week. His consistent hitting has helped the Pioneers go 3-3. He batted 11-for-20, a .550 average. His offensive stats included five home runs, six singles, 17 runs batted in, seven runs scored, two hit by pitch and three base on balls with a 1.300 slugging percentage.

Another former Royal, Coombs product Brandon Nicoll, has made an impressive start in his freshman year with the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders in the Great American Conference, an NCAA Division II circuit.

So far this season, Nicoll has recorded five home runs.

In the game against Quachita Baptist University Tigers on Monday, March 14, he went 3-for-5 that included a homer, a double, a triple, two runs scored and four RBIs. He finished a single shy of the cycle. The day before, Nicolle ripped a grand slam.

The Muleriders are Nicoll’s second stop in the U.S. Nicoll first joined the Galveston College Whitecaps in 2019. During his two-year stint there, he became one of the Whitecaps’ prolific hitters as he averaged .264 in the first year and .331 in his second year, with nine home runs.
