The Arrowsmith Cricket Club hosts the Wicket Maidens, a women’s cricket team from Victoria on Saturday.

To be played in the community park in Qualicum Beach at around 1 p.m., the match will feature some members of the Canadian national women’s team, according to local club member Luke Downs.

“It’s an exhibition game,” Downs said, noting there are no regular league game here anymore, due to a lack to players and field availability.

The local club also travels to Shawnigan Lake on the Labour Day weekend to play a team up from Portland, Oregon. It’s a traditional match that dates back 10 years, Downs said.

Saturday’s exhibition will be the first cricket match in Qualicum Beach in a while, he noted, adding it should be a fun time for the local players — and fans of the sport.

The game will be a limited overs format, with a time limit.
