The Quality Foods Oceanside Generals grounded the host Port Alberni Bombers 6-3 in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action Wednesday night (Dec. 1).
The Generals atoned for their home game loss to the VIJHL leaders Campbell River Storm on Sunday night.
In the first period against Alberni, the Generals grabbed the lead on Nolan Kehoe’s marker. But Keenan Saunders of the Bombers tied it up with three seconds left in the frame.
In the second period, the Generals scored two quick goals with Brendan Carlson finding the back of the net 35 seconds in. About a minute later, Brady Van Herk made it 3-1. The Bombers cut the lead to one when Jackson Payeur netted a power-play goal. But the Generals extended their lead 4-2 near the halfway mark on Brayden Ross’s power-play goal.

In the final period, the Generals put the game out of reach on goals by Evan Dyce and Carter Johnson. The Bombers scored one more goal in the dying seconds.
The Generals improved to 18-7-1 and continue to rank second in the league’s North Division.
On Saturday night, Dec. 4, the Generals face another tough outing when they host the second-best team in the league, the Victoria Cougars, who are on top in the South Division. They play at Oceanside Place, with puck drop at 7 p.m.
The next day, the Generals play a matinee game when they face the Kerry Park Islanders at Oceanside Place at 2 p.m.
