It’s been a busy summer for the Save-On-Foods Oceanside Generals as they continue to build towards their training camp in August.
Taking part in the Canada Day parade, head coach Jason Johns and a group of players were out in uniform, sticks and all, as they walked the length of the parade while giving out fist bumps and high fives to fans as they passed.
There have also been a few notable moves as of late, particularly with the addition of a few more players to the Generals roster for next season.
Two more forwards have been added to the fold as both Brendan Bilotta and Mattieu Jallabert have committed to the Generals for next season.
Jallabert, a 17-year-old forward from Nanaimo, was being sought after by his hometown Nanaimo Buccaneers and the Generals, but is ultimately choosing to suit up for the Generals after playing a handful of games as an affiliated player (AP) with the Gens last season.
Jallabert will bring some much needed offense to the Generals, who had a hard time finding the net last season.
“We’re really excited about the addition of Mattieu to our team,” Johns said.
“He’s going to bring some offense to our team with his great skill and play-making abilities. He’s going to give our fans a lot to cheer about this season.”
Bilotta, 19 years old, comes to the Generals after playing in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), in the United States, with the Wallpole Express.
A native of Fort Collins, Colorado, Bilotta is expected to bring some experience up front for the Oceanside Generals.
“Brendan brings a lot of experience, playing Junior A in the EHL,” Gravel said.
“He’s a quality individual both on and off the ice and we’re certain that he’s going to be one of the leaders on this team and a great ambassador for the Generals organization.”
