Generals remain atop Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League standings

The Oceanside Generals continue to hold their lofty perch atop the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League standings.

Following a 5-2 home win Saturday over the Saanich Predators, the Gens sport a 17-3-1-2 record, good for 37 points. The Campbell River Storm also have 37 points, but Oceanside has a game in hand.

On Saturday, the Generals broke open a tight game with three goals in the third period to pull away from Saanich.

Tyler Gyori had two goals and an assist to pace the winners, with Taylor Madsen, Brady Van Herk and Parker Klippenstein adding singles. Carter Johnson added three assists.

Matthew Hutchison picked up the win in goal, making 35 saves.

Taylor Webb and Gaetz Barrie scored for Saanich.

The Generals are on the road Wednesday night against the Westshore Wolves and Friday against the Comox Valley Glacier Kings before returning home Saturday (7 p.m. at Oceanside Place) to host Campbell River.
