It was strictly ladies’ day at Oceanside Place last weekend as Oceanside Minor Hockey hosted its first Female Family Day Face-off hockey tournament for bantam and peewee girls teams.

The three-day event drew 16 teams from across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland eight each in the bantam and peewee divisions.

“This was the first annual family day tournament and by the sounds of it will be back next year,” said Susanne Hall of the tournament committee. “We had amazing feedback regarding how the tournament was run, how fair the referees were and overall experience to the area was.”

The bantam girls division was won by South Delta and the peewee division was won by North Shore.

The tourney was a major fundraiser for the Oceanside girls hockey program, and featured a raffle table loaded with donations from local businesses and individuals, 50/50 draws, a loonie stick and more.

The next recreation hockey action for OMHA will come during spring break in March, when Oceanside Place will play host to consecutive tournaments for rec peewee (Mar. 13-15), rec atom (Mar. 15-17) and initiation/novice teams (Mar. 17-19).
