The indoor season is in full swing and the Parksville Volleyball Club wants to get the word out “that girls volleyball is very much alive and successful in our community.”
According to club mum Paulina Alexander, the season got off to a bumpy start with a new president and vice president, and a shortage of coaches.
“We weren’t sure at the beginning of the season if we could keep the club up and running,” she said, “however a number of volunteers stepped up and we have a substantial number of players enjoying the game today.”
According to Alexander PVC Thunder is a non-profit society dedicated to developing girls volleyball in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area. PVC aspires to promote the exciting game of volleyball while providing female athletes the opportunity to develop their skills and sportsmanship in a fun and competitive environment.
The long-time local club has four or five teams up and running this year “and would love to see our numbers increase for next season.”
PVC practices every Wednesday (Kwalikum Secondary) and Friday (Oceanside Middle School).
The club also has a fundraising account set up at the Parksville Bottle Depot and at Quality Foods so the community can help their cause with donations.
PVC’s season culminates with the provincials in Abbotsford in May, followed by a season-ending fun day for the entire club.

Fans of the game can get in on the action this Sunday as PVC’s U15 team will be hosting a tournament at KSS.
Alexander says they are expecting around six other teams from around the Island “for a great play day, complete with concession and raffle.”
