Kwalikum Kondors earned a strong fourth-place showing at the recent 2021-22 Senior Girls Volleyball 2A Island Championships at St. Michael’s University School in Victoria.
Head coach Tom Biggs was impressed with his squad, which finished behind host SMUS, Brentwood and John Barsby of Nanaimo.
“I am very proud and impressed with my team, everyone played well, and as a result we won a key game on Saturday morning that put provincials in our sights,” he said. “Despite our best efforts in the next match against SMUS, we just couldn’t slow down one of the best hitters in the tourney. The games were tight and it was only a matter of a few points here or there and we would’ve been off to provincials. Altogether a great season.”
Biggs noted for the only two Grade 12s on the team, Mckenna Eirikson and Ruthie McAllister, “to be in it until the final game with this team, was an incredible way to finish high school volleyball.”
Other team members included: Liesl Domes, Olivia Panichelli, Sophie Bruner, Peyton Yochim, Gigi Smith, Amelia Jewer and Sydney Gerke.
