Carter Johnson scored a hat trick and had an assist, leading the Save-On-Foods Oceanside Generals to a 4-1 win against the visiting Nanaimo Buccaneers in a Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League game at Oceanside Place on Tuesday night.
The Generals forward from Winnipeg continues to lead the VIJHL in scoring with 18 goals and 18 assists for 36 points. Johnson, who earned first star of the game honours, scored in all three periods.
Defenceman Brady Van Herk was the only other goal-scorer for the Generals, who outshot the Buccaneers 51-14. Goalie Matthew Hutchison earned his fifth win, turning away 13 shots.

The Generals remain on top of the Northern Division with 13 wins, two losses, one overtime loss and two shootout losses for 29 points. Trailing behind them are Campbell River Storm with 13 wins and five losses and in third are the Comox Valley Glacier Kings with 12 wins, four losses and two shootout losses.
ICE CHIPS: The Generals are on the road Friday night to Lake Cowichan to face the Kraken at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena. Then on Saturday, the Generals are back home at Oceanside Place to face the Saanich Predators, who in their last meeting beat them in a shootout. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
