The Parksville Junior Royals redeemed themselves after falling apart in the first game of their doubleheader at home against the Coquitlam Redlegs on Saturday.

The Royals kept the Redlegs off the scoreboard in four innings of play. They led 2-0 in the bottom of the third and in the fourth added another five runs to lead 9-0. But in the fifth, the Royals lost control as they gave up eight runs. Starting pitcher Jacob Volkers was briefly relieved by Jordan Dennis before Nolan McDonald was given the task to keep the Royals in contention. But he wasn’t able to salvage the game and was credited for the loss as the Redlegs scored 10 more runs to win 18-9.

In the second game, the Royals again took the initial lead, scoring five runs in the first three innings to go up 5-0. This time, Parksville held on to split the weekend with the Redlegs. Brodie Comerford pitched five solid innings to take the win. He gave up six hits but allowed only three runs to help the Royals secure a 13-3 victory.

Connor Hall had two hits and two RBI while Max Kolopenuk and Brayden McLary each had three rbis while both went 1-for-2 in the second game.

The Parksville Royals improved their record to two wins and six losses and are in ninth place in the standings.
