Years of dedication and hard work continue to pay off for local forward Kyle Kramer, who last week secured his educational future by committing to attend Brown University in the fall of 2013.
As reported in our feature on Kramer last December, his family moved here from Fernie when he was nine and he played his minor hockey with Oceanside. The 5’10” 180 pound right- shooting forward from Qualicum Beach is in his fourth season with the BCHL’s Clippers. So far this season, he has posted 16 goals and 16 assists in 32 games for 32 points.
Kramer, 20, played for the hometown VIJHL Generals as a 16-year-old when the team won the Island Championship and went on to compete in the Cyclone Taylor Cup.
Fast forward to today and Kramer is coming off a career campaign with the ‘Boatmen — scoring 29 goals and adding 27 assists for 56 points in 60 games last season which put him second on the season on the squad in scoring (three points back of first).
“We are very excited to make this announcement,” Clippers’ head coach and GM Mike Vandekamp said of the signing, adding “Kyle deserves this opportunity as much or more than any athlete I have ever worked with. His dedication, commitment, and perseverance have paid off and we are very proud to see him make this commitment,” said Vandekamp.

When not hitting the books, Kramer will be lacing up for the BU Bears, who compete in the eight-team NCAA Div. 1 Ivy League Conference.
