Lawn bowling tournament in Parksville this week

Canadian National Mixed Pairs hits Parksville Sept. 7 - 13

If you’ve ever wanted to see elite lawn bowling and didn’t want to travel to do it, look no further than the Parksville Lawn Bowling Club this coming week.

From Sept. 7-13, the club will be hosting the Canadian National Mixed Pairs Championship and the club invites everyone to take in the action.

Opening ceremonies will take place on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. Local dignitaries, flag bearers and choristers will welcome the athletes and coaches from across Canada who will be taking part in the week long tournament.

Games get underway at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday in a round robin format. On Sept. 12, the club will host a dinner, dance and silent auction in support of the event.

Tickets are $35, available at the club. Saturday, the bronze medal game happens at 9:30 a.m. The gold medal game goes at 1 p.m. with the closing ceremonies happening around 3:30 p.m.

“It’s going to be a great week at the club,” said spokesperson, Carol Bucyk. “The hot, dry summer we had has been no match for our dedicated grounds crew.”

“They were awesome in keeping the green in great, playable condition. Add to that all the work the committee and club members have done to make this event memorable, we’re going to have a wonderful tournament!”

Admission to the daily matches is free, including the medal rounds. There’s ample parking available, great viewing areas, a welcoming atmosphere, accessible washrooms and a scenic, park-like setting.

The Parksville Lawn bowling Club is located at 149 E. Stanford, across from Parksville Elementary and behind Stanford Place.
