Mayors Charity Golf tourney hits links for third round

Fundraiser becoming more popular all the time

The third annual Oceanside Mayors’ Charity Golf Classic is coming up early this year, set for June 22 at Morningstar Golf Club.

Started by former Parksville mayor Ed Mayne, the event has been taken up by the Parksville-Qualicum Foundation and formally supported by Parksville and Qualicum Beach.

Parksville acting mayor Chris Burger and Qualicum Beach mayor Teunis Westbroek are excited to be taking part in the fundraiser for the foundation (www.parksvillequalicumfoundation.com) which uses earned interest to provide grants to local community groups.

Last September the tournament reached their goal and raised over $10,000 for various community groups.

Morningstar Golf Club is again donating the green fees and organizers are still accepting sponsors. The tournament is open to individuals or organized teams at a cost of $160 per player or $550 for a team of four, including the golf, power cart, sleeve of balls, barbecue lunch, dinner and prizes. Non-golfers are also invited to the dinner afterward.
