Football season is set to start again in Parksville Qualicum Beach.

The Oceanside Youth Football Association (OYFA) will be introducing spring flag football for kids aged 7 to 10 years old on Sunday, April 2, from 11-12 p.m. at Ballenas Secondary.

“We’re doing this as a way to introduce football to more kids in the area,” said Michael Pedersen of the OYFA. “Flag allows younger kids to try throwing and catching, without the fear of contact.”

The OYFA said it has received grants that would allow any kids who might want to play to join completely free of charge.

The head coach for flag is Brendan Burns, who has been a coach with the Oceanside Lions for over 10 years. He now has little guys of his own, so he’s put this program together for them and to help other kids under 10 get some exposure to The Lions and the sport.

Pedersen is encouraging all kids— boys and girls— ages 7-10 to try out the fun event.
