The Oceanside Generals tied their best-of-seven series Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League North Division final 1-1 when they stopped the Campbell River Storm 4-1 in their own barn on Friday night, (March 17).

The Generals redeemed themselves after getting shutout in Game 1 in front of home fans two nights ago. Game 3 switches back to Parksville at Oceanside Place tonight (March 18) at 8 p.m.

The Storm had another strong start and shut out the Generals again in the first frame while grabbing a 1-0 lead, with Carter De Boer netting a goal at 12:46. They outshot the Generals 13-6.

But in the second, the Generals took over when they scored a late power play goal to square things up. The league’s top scorer in the regular season Carter Johnson led the charge on the man-advantage, finding the back of the net at 17:56. The Generals appeared to have scored near the end of the frame but it was disallowed.

The momentum completely swung to the Generals’ favour as they netted another power play goal scored by Brady Van Herk at 5:29. Johnson made it 3-1 for his second goal of the night and Nolan Kehoe sealed the win with an unassisted goal at 19:59.

In post game interview, Johnson said it was a huge win for the Generals as they didn’t want to go back home trailing 2-0.

Goalie Ashton Sadauskas backstopped the Generals, turning away 30 shots to earn the win in goal.
