The Oceanside Lions junior bantam football team ended their season on a high note, as they became champions of the Dogwood Cup.
The Vancouver Island Canadian Football Association hosted the spring finals at the Nanaimo District Secondary School turf field. The Lions took on the Cowichan Valley Bulldogs in the final.
Despite having a short bench, with only 14 players, the Lions played their hearts out to keep the Bulldogs at bay and scored a narrow 19-16 win to lift the cup.
Riley Wilson sparked the Lions offence with three touchdowns and one interception and was named most valuable player of the game.

The win also gave senior coaches Michael Silzer and Bruce Neugebauer a nice farewell gift, as both are finishing their coaching duties with the Lions. Both are moving on to other endeavours.
