BC Hockey Week is in full swing, and the local barn will be bursting at the seams with young players this weekend for the long-running Oceanside Minor Hockey Jamboree.

“We have 430 players (boys and girls) in our association, and pretty much every one of them will be participating,” Jamboree chair Cindy Hutchison said, adding, “we are expecting over a thousand people this weekend.”

The Jamboree will be at Oceanside Place Saturday and Sunday starting at around 7 a.m. and running through to 6:30 p.m. both days.

There will be 21 games and practices on tap, and over 100 players from all six divisions ranging in age from 5-18 will hit the ice at Howie Meeker Arena from 2:15 to 4:15 p.m. Saturday for the always popular skills and drills portion. OMHA will also be presenting some awards.

Immediately following the skills and drills, volunteers will start handing out 150 servings of a big commemorative cake donated by Thrifty Foods.

Two notable games going on during the Jamboree will be Saturday night’s Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League game between the Generals and Kerry Park Islanders (7:30 p.m. start), and Sunday’s Midget Rep Generals game against Juan de Fuca (1:45 p.m. start).

Oceanside Minor Lacrosse will also have a  table set up in the lobby during the jamboree for anyone interested in signing on for the upcoming box lacrosse season.
