The Parksville Lawn Bowling Club is hosting its first major event, a mixed pairs tournament June 22-24.

There will be 32 teams that will compete in the three-day event that is co-sponsored by Quality Foods and NexGen Hearing of Parksville.

“It’s going to be a pretty special event as we will have players coming from up and down the Island for this one because of the prize pool,” club spokesperson, Carol Bycyk said

The matches will run at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on all three days.

Earlier this month the club held its first tournament of the season, the Club Triples. Winning the overall title were Len Canning, Jeanette Ferguson and Frank Bainbridge.

The early draw winners were the trio of Pat Kelly, Clive Arthorne, and Carolyn Russell, with Bev Beaith, Bill Burgess, and Atholl Trickett finishing in second place. The third place team was Dave Perry, Jerry Blumfald, and Helen Davidson

The late draw winners were Canning, Ferguson and Frank Bainbridge, followed by Ken Olenick, Lorraine Canning and Penny Bhanji. Placing third were Roberta Stets, Bros Brosnikoff, and Gerda Veld.

The Parksville Lawn Bowling Club is located at 149 E. Stanford and welcomes spectators to any of its tournaments.
