The Parksville Curling Club will be rocking this month.

It has a busy schedule starting with the January Blues Women's Bonspiel, slated for Jan. 17 to Jan. 19. This Island-wide competitive event will feature teams from curling clubs up and down Vancouver Island. The finals will be held on Sunday, Jan. 19 followed by a trophy presentation.

The bonspiel is also a qualifier for the Sweeper's Cash Spiel in Duncan, March 20 to March 23.

The public is welcome to watch the event.

The club is also holding events that is geared towards giving people a chance to try the sport and also learn to curl.

Those who are interested and have a desire to experience what the sport is like, you can join the club's Open House on Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 and attend one of the four free curling sessions led by their training coaches. There is no advance sign-up. Just head out to the PCC at the Parksville Community Park, on Friday, Jan. 24  and take part in the 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. session, or on Saturday, Jan. 25, it's at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

All the equipment will be provided by the club. However, because the ice is cold, participants are advised to bring gloves, a toque or hat and wear comfortable, stretchy attire if possible. Also bring a refillable water bottle.

The club will also be holding a Learn to Curl program for brand new curlers or for those who want to return to the game after being away for a while. It will be held every Friday, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting on Feb. 7. It's a five-week program that will consist of lessons that include fundamental skills of curling, delivering a rock, sweeping, strategy, teamwork as well as learning the different positions.

The cost to join is $75 and this includes all the equipment that will be provided by the club.

The club will stage Big Chill II fundraising campaign to replace its condenser unit, which is nearing the end of its lifespan. It will cost $155,000 and the club is hoping to have a new condenser in place in the summer of 2025.

Donations are being sought. Contribution of $25 or more are tax deductible when made through the BC Amateur Sports Fund and donations of over $500 will be recognized with an inscription on your choice of rock handle. Donations made before April 20 will be matched up to total of $10,000.
