Parksville mayor Ed Mayne and Qualicum Beach mayor Brian Wiese have issued a friendly challenge to the mayor of North Saanich, Geoff Orr, ahead of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League playoff final series between the Oceanside Generals and Peninsula Panthers.
Game 1 of the best-of-seven series will be played on Wednesday, March 23 at Oceanside Place at 7 p.m.
Mayne and Wiese approached Orr and laid out a bet, stating the city which loses the championship series will fly the other’s city’s flag for a day and the mayor will wear the winning team’s jersey during a council meeting.

“We are proud of the Oceanside Generals as North Division champions and their successful season and confident they will win the VIJHL Championship as well,” said Mayne. “Go Generals.”

• April 4 Oceanside Place (if necessary)
The winner of the series will represent Vancouver Island in the provincial Cyclone Taylor Cup to be held in Delta from April 7 to April 10.
