Oceanside Running Club Association had seven members competing at the Cobble Hill 10K on Jan. 23.
It marked the first actual in-person race for the Vancouver Island Race Series since racing was cancelled two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than 400 runners took part in the event, hosted by the Cowichan Valley CEEVACS Running Club.
The men’s division was won by Comox Valley runner Logan Roots, who completed the 10k distance in a time of 31 minutes and 56 seconds. No far behind in second was Jonathan Walker of Victoria at 32:57 and in third was Cowichan Valley’s Dusty Spiller, who clocked in at 33:03.
In the women’s race, Meg Lewis-Schneider of Victoria was first to cross the finish line in a time of 35:38. Finishing in second place as Nathasha Parson of Nanaimo in 39:26 and Elise Butler of Victoria was third in 40:24.

ORCA members had many solid results. Those that took part were Allan Vermeulen (46:38), Shawn Petraschuk (46:45), Chris Greenway (54:42), Mary Beil (58:46), Christine Rivers (1:03:58), Jill Davies (1:06:30), Pamela Caldwell (1:09:52) and Dianne Darte (1:10:14).
Other results of Parksville Qualicum Beach runners entered: Rory Polson (49:51), Ev McLachlan (58:08), Debra MacArthur (1:12:12), and Julliette Sottiaux (1:14:53).
The next race of the Vancouver Island Series will be the Hatley Castle 8K in Victoria on Feb. 13. Registration for the event is open until Feb. 11. There is no race day registration. You can go online at https://raceroster.com/events/2022/54533/2022-hatley-castle-8k. It costs $30 to enter.
