Parksville Qualicum Beach weightlifters haul gold medals at BC Masters

Championships held at Raincity Athletics in Vancouver March 4-5.

Members of Ferg’s Weightlifting Club brought home shining gold medals from the BC Masters Weightlifting Championships held at Raincity Athletics in Vancouver on March 4-5.

The club’s head coach, 88-year-old Ed Fergusson and wife Brenda, 80, led the team with each bagging a gold and setting three Canadian records.

Following in their coach’s footsteps was 68-year-old Ray Kasten who landed a gold medal in the men’s 65-89 age category and also broke three B.C. weightlifting records.

Also finishing first in their respective age and weight categories, and collecting gold medals, were Norm Paterson, 68, and Nick Braun, 48.

The team trains at One on One Fitness at Creekmore, located west of Coombs.
