After several rained-out contests, the Parksville Royals finally got to play their first BC Premier Baseball League games of the season.

The Royals hosted the Delta Blue Jays in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 23 but unfortunately both games didn’t go their way as they lost 10-0 and 4-3.

They were scheduled to host the North Shore Twins the next day and they lost both games 2-1 and 12-2.

Against the Blue Jays, the Royals pitching struggled throughout the game. Starter Edyn Barber lasted three innings, giving up five runs. Nick Lineger Jr. took over in the fourth but didn’t last as the Blue Jays got to him and scored three more runs. Southpaw Cameron Goodman finished the job on the mound but wasn’t able to stop the Blue Jays, who scored two more runs in the fifth to end the game via mercy rule.

In the second game, the Royals got off to a good start but weren’t able to hang on. Breydan Riekcer and Keitaro Adachi scored earned runs to put the home team ahead 2-1. But on the sixth, the Blue Jays notched two runs and added another in the top of the seventh to lead 4-2. The Royals rallied in the bottom of the final inning with Ryan Deagle scoring a run with only one out.

But the comeback fell short as they left two players stranded in scoring position in second and third.

Parker McBurnie started for the Royals and lasted six innings, giving up six hits, four earned runs and striking out two.

The Royals hit the road this weekend to take on the Whalley Chiefs in a doubleheader on April 30; then the next day travel to North Shore to face the Twins.
