QB lawn bowling

The Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club kicked off its opening weekend with a big recruitment drive.

The Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club kicked off its opening weekend with a big recruitment drive and had a good turnout with people coming out to see what the sport of lawn bowling is all about.

The inclement weather didn’t put a damper on the proceedings as they were able to use their indoor greens, giving the guests a chance to throw some bowls, talk about the game with other members over coffee and have a chance to tour the facility.

The QBLBC maintains their busy schedule, with lessons for those signing up and room for more if they’re interested.

Opening day for the QBLBC saw warm and sunny weather, bringing out a great crowd of bowlers.

Mayor Teunis Westbroek threw out the first bowl to officially start the 2014 season, showing some rather excellent form. Members drew for teams then bowled their first outdoor game of the season, stopping for a quick coffee and cake break, and then it was back out to the pitch for another game.

Anyone interested in signing up to give lawn bowling a try in Qualicum Beach can contact Wilma at 250-752-3330 or drop by Tuesdays between 1 and 3 p.m. to give it a try.
