Qualicum beach lawn bowling club fights for second place

Classic Men's Triples Lawn Bowling Tournament sees 18 teams from Oceanside compete

On June 10 to 12, the Parksville Lawn Bowling Club hosted the annual Classic Men’s Triples Tournament.

Eighteen teams from Oceanside and other Island clubs entered the tournament, with one of the Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club teams placing second.

This was an exciting win for Mike Ward (skip), John Wilson (third) and George Machin (lead).

The cut to qualify for the playoffs was one game away and Mike’s team were at two wins, two losses going into what could be their final game. The team was two points down “coming home” — the final end of the game. Mike chose to send an adventurous last shot into the mix of the jack and the bowls. A lucky break saw Mike’s bowl wick (hit) off two other bowls and land in a great spot giving the team a win of one point.

The team played hard in the final round, losing first place by only one point, but proud of their second place showing.  Well done team!
