There was a Shark Attack in Parksville on the weekend, but not to worry, it wasn’t in the Ocean and the kids had a blast.

Oceanside Minor Lacrosse hosted the first annual Shark Attack Tykes Lacrosse Tournament on the weekend and tournament coordinator Nicki Bull and company certainly brought their A-game.

The tourney featured 16 teams from up and down the Island and 256 young players age 5-8 “plus their families which included many grandparents in attendance.”

Played out at Oceanside Place and at the outdoor box down at Parksville Community Park, the tournament featured 32 games, starting at 8 a.m. and going until 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Each player received a keepsake Shark Attack tournament T-shirt at their first game, “which many of them wore all weekend long.”

“We had great feedback from the teams that they all had a great time and look forward to attending next season,” said Bull, who was also quick to thank “all our Oceanside Minor Lacrosse families for all their volunteer time to make this weekend possible. I would also like to thank our great group of eight young referees that worked hard and put in many hours this weekend.”

As for the hometown Sharks, the kids turned in a terrific effort, and were clearly in the spirit with many of them adding handlebar moustaches and mock scars to their game-face.
