Special Olympics Oceanside has a 5-pin bowling team that competed at the 2023 Special Olympics BC Games in Kamloops, Feb. 3-4.

Coaches Greg and Trish Dunn have been preparing the team with increased workouts to make sure the athletes are fully ready for the games. The Oceanside bowling team consists of Stephanie Button, Alex Henry, Madison Sheppard, Seamus MacDonald, and Brodie Stevens.

“This is such an exciting time for our local bowlers to be fully competitive and the fact that we can do so on a provincial level, after years of uncertainty due to the pandemic, makes all involved with Special Olympics so proud and supportive of our bowling team,” said Greg Dunn.

This was Special Olympics BC’s first provincial games in four years. The winter sports events include 5-pin bowling, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoeing, and speed skating.

Athletes earned their spots in these provincial games through their performances in regional qualifiers held from January to May 2022.

Athletes pursued personal bests in Kamloops and competed for the chance to qualify for the 2024 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary.
