Oceanside Minor Lacrosse is accepting registration for the 2017 box lacrosse season, which gets under way this week with practices at the Parksville Community Park lacrosse box.

Registration is open for players in the midget (born 2001-2002), bantam (2003-04), peewee (2005-06), novice (2007-08), tyke (2009-10) and mini-tyke (2011-12) divisions.

Cost for the season for mini-tykes is $140 and for tykes is $160. All other classifications range from $250 to $290 on a sliding scale.

For families with multiple players, register the oldest child at the regular price and receive $25 off the fee for each additional child.

First-year registered players in mini-tyke, tyke and novice divisions receive a lacrosse stick upon completion of registration.

Oceanside Youth Soccer Society will host its Spring Soccer Academy with weekly sessions beginning April 12 and running through June 7 at Kwalikum Secondary School field in Qualicum Beach.

The academy is free for all players registered with OYSS. Deadline to register is April 5; no drop-ins will be allowed.

The academy is open to boys and girls in the U9-U11 and U12-13 divisions (from 5:30-6:40 p.m. each Wednesday), and to boys and girls U14-U17 (from 6:45-8 p.m.), if a sufficient number of players are registered by the April 5 deadline.

A six-week junior academy will be offered to youngsters in the U6-U8 age groups, running May 3 to June 7 at the KSS soccer field. Each session will run from 5:45-6:40 p.m.

Pre-register for either of these academies by emailing technical director Larry Stefanek at stefaneksoccer@shaw.ca by April 5.
