The Quality Foods Oceanside Generals are on the brink of elimination.

The Generals fell 5-2 to the visiting Comox Valley Glacier Kings Wednesday (March 2) in Game 5 of their best-of-seven Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League opening-round playoff series at Oceanside Place. Comox Valley now leads the series 3-2.

The Generals are in a must-win situation as they head to the Comox Valley on Saturday night (March 5) for Game 6.

On Wednesday, Comox Valley started quickly, scoring just 13 seconds into the first period. The Glacier Kings added two more goals to take a 3-0 lead. The Generals pulled one back before the end of the period when Jacob Thomas scored on a man-advantage.

Neither team was able to score in the middle frame. The Generals started strong in the final period but got carried away with their aggressive play and took a costly penalty and the Glacier Kings converted to make it 4-1.

The Generals were able to cut the lead to 4-2 on Evan Dyce’s power-play goal late in the period. The Generals made a last gasp attempt to try and score again when they pulled goalie Ashton Sadauskas for the extra attacker. The plan backfired as the Aodhan Hildebrandt was able to secure the puck and launched it into the empty net to seal game for Comox Valley.

Generals captain Brett Arnet will be back in the lineup for Game 6 following a suspension.
