Forward Carter Johnson had a huge seven-point game, leading the Quality Foods Oceanside Generals to a 9-2 win over the host Campbell River Storm in Game 1 of their best-of-seven Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League North Division final at the Rod Brind’Amour Arena on Friday night, March 11.

Johnson, the Generals top scorer who was named the VIJHL’s best forward in the regular season, notched five goals and two assists. He set the tone of the game when he netted four of the Generals six consecutive goals in the opening frame.

Brendan Carson and Greyson Weme also tallied for the locals in the first frame.

The league-leading Storm opened the second with a quick goal at the 1:21 mark from Jalen Price. But the Generals defence kept them off the scoreboard until the 15:05 mark when Riley Billy scored a short-handed goal to cut the gap to 6-2.

The rally was halted when Johnson scored on the power play at 16:09. Trey Boylan restored the Generals’ six-goal lead at 8-2 when he scored just over a minute later.
